Beaconia Marsh Destruction
Destruction of the marsh is threatening all the wildlife that normally inhabits it. There is the additional threat that this excavation is to be used for watercraft. This type of activity will kill birds and fish. It will end the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed on Beaconia Beach. Anyone who enjoys Beaconia Beach can expect a very different experience if we allow this developing to continue. Help us end the excavation.

A Guide to Domestic Abuse Information and Resources
Hi, my name is Natalie Richards, and I work for SR Education Group, an educational resource provider. In light of Yeardley Love's tragic death, I felt compelled to create an article that might help students and victims of domestic violence. This article offers statistics, myths, resources, and treatment options for those suffering from domestic abuse, sexual assault, or stalking. As a woman, I am familiar with the tendency for us (female friends, relatives, acquaintances, etc) to enable certain behaviors (“I’ll just give him one more chance”); hide relationship or personal problems from others; fear judgment; agonize over the consequences of our actions; and doubt our own self worth. My intention is to try and help abused women (or people in general) to find resources and support, and to let them know that they are not alone.

Our first

Queer History

In 1974 Chris Vogel and Rich North tried to become legally married; however the church ceremony was disallowed by the Manitoba courts.

Our first openly gay mayor Glen Murray served from October 1998 to May 11, 2004 he was the first Gay Mayor from a large North American city.
Murray served as city councillor from 1990 to 1998 and was elected mayor on October 28, 1998 with 50.5% of the vote, Murray was re-elected in 2002.

Our first raising of the Rainbow Pride Flag at City Hall was on May 31, 2002, and on June 9, 2002 the Manitoba Prov Government Proclaimed Gay Pride.

In 2002, under pressure from gay and lesbian activists, Manitoba's NDP government introduced a bill giving same-sex couples the right to adopt.

Manitoba legalized Equal Marriage on September 16, 2004, and on June 28, 2005 House of Commons passed Bill C-38, by a vote of 158 - 133.

In 2004, thirty years later, Chris Vogel and Richard were legally married.

On July 19, 2005 The Senate voted 46-22 in favour of Bill C-38, and on July 20, 2005 Bill C-38 received royal assent and is now the law of the land.
